Spicy Chili Tuna Pizza
Updated: Aug 5, 2020
During COVID lockdown, we chose to stop eating out to stay safe so I decided to make my favorite pizzas at home. It is surprisingly easy to do and gives you the freedom to make it healthier and to use toppings that you love to eat. While you can purchase a pre-made pizza base from the supermarkets, making your own is pretty easy to do and the pizza turns out even more delicious. My nephew describes the homemade cheese pizza as "this is just amazing!".
Chilli Tuna Pizza is not something that we find easily at takeouts today but this was one that brings back a lot of memories. In Fiji, we used to get spicy, hot chili tuna pizza which was just the best. I recreated this using Sirena chili tuna and it is amazing.
I have listed my chili tuna pizza tipping as well as a basic pizza dough. Enjoy!
Basic Pizza Dough
Ingredients:
11/2 cups warm water
pinch sugar
1 sachet (7g) dried yeast
4 cups plain flour, plus extra for dusting
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup olive oil
Method:
1. In a small bowl, combine the water, yeast, and sugar. Set aside for 5 minutes. The mixture will become foamy.
2. In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Make a 'well' in the center and add in the yeast mixture and oil. With a flat spoon or round-bladed knife, use a cutting motion and combine the flour mixture.
3. Using your hands, bring the mixture together and knead it on a lightly floured surface, until smooth and elastic.
4. Lightly oil, place in a bowl, and cover. Leave in a warm place for at least 30 minutes. The dough will rise and double in size.
5. Knead on a lightly floured surface and divide it into half. Roll out and spread onto a 30 cm round pizza pan.
6. Cover with your favorite toppings and bake at 200 degrees Celsius for 15 - 20 minutes.
